as widely requested

This was the best of the gingerbread cuneiform. I put the good ones in the freezer to give to pals tomorrow at brunch and will eat the rest, or something. This is one of the maple syrup tables, which were lighter in colour and held the clarity slightly better. (More water, therefore harder texture? Not sure.)

I copied characters from Andrew George's excellent renderings of the tablets, as any photos I looked at were way too unclear. However, I freely skipped tricky characters or sections. Sîn-lēqi-unninni would be pissed.

ETA: Oh, I believe this text is taken from a fragment of the third tablet.

Sudden Motivation!

Over the past week or so, I've been feeling motivation to do art, textiles, check DW, play Hades, some other things... only problem is that I've also been very sleepy, probably at least somewhat bc I've been sleeping during the day and missing meals. I just know that I'll be able to get a little on track if I get myself to have a better sleep schedule again, then I can finally do some stuff I wanted to! I think in some ways, my previous post did kinda help — both making it at all, and the nice people who said hi ^-^

Well, I also have to be awake by 8am and stay awake for most of the day next Monday, so there's some outside pressure... Zav comeback era? lol

EDIT 2025-12-17: OKAY I DIDN'T MEAN THAT I WANTED TO WAKE UP WITH NO SLEEP, IT IS 7:31AM AND I WENT TO BE AT LIKE. 4AM.

I called it

I told Emily that her doing Lego ASMR would be popular for the channel (and if we ever get monetized, would fund her Lego addiction)

She doubted it but the video we put up just yesterday has nearly 200 views already and two new subscribers

I have part one of another fancy chocolate advent going up tomorrow and there are some JonJon short videos. <3

I'm hoping we can convince Emily's niece and friends to come clean up our cars and dig us out today. I'll toss a little cash their way if so. Also hopefully the small FreshDirect order will come in the 12-2 window that I scheduled the other day and if things stop and we get dug out, hopefully we can go to dinner with friends since they're heading to India on the 19th.

Weird. (a game)

Hey, I posted my game! You can find it here.

Playtests welcome. It is a solo storytelling/journalling/story creation horror game. It uses a simplified version of solitaire to drive the story.

[ETA] From the writeup:

And yet the sun rises.

Weird. is a horror game about a flawed protagonist confronting their worst nightmares.

I, a troubled character, am alone on the longest night of the year.

You, a storyteller, use prompts and the inevitability of card order to tell a story for me, driven by fear and fate.

I am tormented by unfinished business, which, as you know, is a great way to become the target of supernatural forces.

Enjoy bringing about my nearly inevitable and almost certainly miserable end, but also maybe final moment of grace, redemption, or transformation, in Weird.

* * * * * *

Title-wise, I went with Weird, as an archaic synonym for fate, styled with a period: Weird.

I liked the suggestion of Patience quite a bit, but this isn't really a game about being patient. I'd want waiting, duration, something like that, in the mechanics somewhere. Actually, maybe I'll try to make such a game, since I still seem to have Game Fever. Maybe it's to play in waiting rooms.

As predicted, the game jam I made has not posted to the Itch calendar, so I am the only person who knows about it or has submitted anything. But I tried!

Thoughts on the possibilities of this mechanic )

* * * * * *

Qua writing tool, I find the game a pretty decent method for creating something between a detailed outline and a rough story draft.

(Repost) Atmospheric River

As we are once again fording the atmospheric river, here's the villanelle (!!) I wrote about the one in 2022:

(Climate Change Villanelle)
After an image by K.

Consider the atmospheric river
as a dragon, slithering through peri-
apocalyptic skies. The end is never

reached of all this rain. Its teeth of silver
gnaw the bones of men who refused boldly
to consider the atmospheric river

as a dragon, not just as the weather,
winning us the wages of false bravery:
apocalyptic skies. The end is never-

ending. Consider the dragon, glitter-
ing, greedy, cruel and wise; now carefully
consider the atmospheric river

as an alternative to the wither-
ing coils of smoke, wildfires' choking, hazy
apocalyptic skies. The end is never

quite what you expect or would prefer.
Drink if you wish, smoke up, get high, daily
consider the atmospheric river,
apocalyptic skies. The end is nigh.

It's done

Squeeze a Churu out for the bestest, prettiest (whinest) boy who peed in the carrier when the vet assistant picked him up, whined constantly but was still a good boy and when the awful decision was made and they "sedated" him, tried to bolt off the table when they brought him back to me.

Oh you little chaos monkey. I will miss the absolute hell out of you. Go annoy your sister now.

He did get one last New Rug Day when a runner arrived for the cold kitchen floor on Monday.

An hour to wait before they open

JonJon has been declining quickly and I'm waiting for the vet to open to see whether I can get him in. Over the last week, week and a half-ish, he's been eating less and sleeping more. Over the last few days, if I mix in tube treats or top with tube treats, he's eaten a little more but not much and is still sleeping more. Now overnight he'll ask for food and then literally scoot away from it like it's poison when I try to give it to him.

Naturally he's seeming to bottom out when I just dropped Emily and her niece off last night to take the trains to Brooklyn to see a concert tonight so as much as I'm theoretically not supposed to, I'll be lifting the boy and his crate to get him seen if I can get him in.

He had his radioactive iodine treatment about three and a half years ago and the average lifespan for a cat that's had that treatment is 2-5 years and he had kidney issues and those kitties don't generally hit the 3 year mark so he's exceeded that. I know I've been not great about getting him seen over the last couple of years but with the exception of having to regularly add Miralax to his food for regular pooping, he's not had issues.

I'll be honest, I don't have a lot of hopes if I get him in today. But the little guy is not doing well and I am of the mind of not forcing treatment just to squeeze out a little more time for me rather than him.

If that happens, no more kitties for me. I have enough issues taking care of myself.

Vital question re: Tablet XII is Canon patch

What is best?

1. A patch with just the text "Tablet XII is Canon"
2. A patch with this text and the shape of the broken tablet above or below it
3. A patch that's in the shape of the broken tablet with the text written on the tablet?

Font would be vaguely cuneiform-y but legible.

For aesthetics, so far as I can tell with very sketchy research the best Tablet XII fragment is shaped kind of like this:

Crafting Update, November 2025 + 20 Minute Kitty!

Boy am I late with this...

I did a LOT of knitting in a very short timeframe in November, and TBH it pooped me out and I think I'm still recovering. BUT! I successfully knitted a pair of legwarmers to wear to the A New World concert! Here they are:

A pair of cabled legwarmers. Yes, one's bigger than the other.
[Image Description: A pair of knitted legwarmers. They are Aran colored (think natural undyed yarn) and feature a folded ribbed cuff at top, with lazy cables on the body and an intricate cable at the back. One is larger than the other.]

So yeah, this pattern comes in small and large sizes. Small wouldn't fit me, but large was TOO big. I altered the pattern some for my first one, taking some stitches out to make it smaller. Well, I finished it and tried it on and nope, too big. So for the second I took even MORE stitches out of the pattern. This one felt like it fit well, but as soon as I started walking, it drooped.

I didn't have time to reknit them, so I made do with them as is, and used elastic headbands under the cuff to keep them up. That worked well! Also, I shortened the pattern because in the pattern pic, the lower edge was dragging on the ground and I didn't like that. Unfortunately, I shortened it TOO much. I might unpick the bind off and knit them a bit longer, but for now, they work. And no, I am likely not going to reknit the too big one. TOO MUCH WORK.

I also made progress on a hoodie!
Central Park Hoodie November 2025 Progress
[Image Description: a sleeve in progress for a knitted hoodie. It's mostly gray in color and features deep ribbing at the cuff. A center cable panel runs up the middle, in teal.]

At the beginning of the month, I had one cable cross done. Now I have two. So not much progress, but hey, progress is progress.

I also did some work on the Versailles Scarf, a small true lace knitted scarf. I wanted to finish this for the concert as well, but decided the legwarmers were more important. It'd be nice to get this done for Christmas, but with the lack of crafting I've been doing so far this month, it's not gonna happen.

FOLKS! I had a cat for 20 minutes!
A photo of a calico kitty who visited our house for about 20 minutes.
[Image Description: A photo of a calico kitty visited our house for a bit.]

She came up to our patio door before the snow hit, when it was still decent out, and we decided to let her in for a bit, once we closed the bedroom doors. I, of course, was enamored. Mom less so. Being a cat, she did cat things, like scratching at an area rug (mom yelled at her, poor thing, but I can't really fault mom for that) and jumping on the kitchen table to try to get to our Christmas cactus. I kept a close eye on her the entire time she was in the house, so when I saw you going for the plant, I gently picked her up and deposited her back on the floor, because well, I don't know if those plants are safe for cats.

She was inquisitive and explored a lot, and liked to rub against legs. At one point, she was in our living room and started trotting towards the kitchen, so I called out to mom to let her know she was headed mom's way. Unfortunately mom was distracted and didn't hear me, and the cat, being friendly, came up behind her and rubbed her legs and mom almost tripped on her. :(

We considered calling an animal shelter, but due to her friendliness, decided to just let her back outside. Not before she jumped on the table AGAIN, though. I tried to grab her to deposit her back on the floor, but she jumped on the back of one of our chairs, and well, the chair tipped over.

Which means mom has declared NO CATS. :( I had really hoped she'd come around and we could, like, adopt a senior kitty, and my older sister made noise about us doing just that at Thanksgiving, but I don't think mom would be happy with a cat. Alas. But at least I had one for 20 minutes.

Frivolous question - solo horror game

I am nearing completion (fingers crossed) on a little winter solstice horror game that uses solitaire as its mechanic.

You will not be surprised to learn that this is is pretty much a solo journalling game with prompts. However, the solitaire mechanic does impose (I hope, anyway) a kind of melancholy fatalism.

I have been calling the game Solitary for obvious reasons, but of course there are many many many many games on Itch alone already called Solitairy. Any thoughts on an alternate title?

Telling the drug pusher NO

I was going to post yesterday with guarded happiness about the improvement in my blood test numbers. Happy because my total cholesterol went from 212 and is now 196, my good HDL cholesterol went up from 46 to 52 and my bad LDL cholesterol went down from 138 to 114. Also, my A1c went down from 6.6 to 6.4 which is back in the safer range. It was guarded because the triglycerides went up from 154 to 173 but they always seem to ping pong all over the place which seems weird. But I figured my GP who convinced me to go on the statin alternative several months ago would be satisfied enough with the results.

Evidently not enough. She had one of her minions call me to ask if I'd be "willing to consider also starting Crestor since my LDL didn't go down as much as the doctor was hoping" of which I interrupted her with the quickness and said NO. Good freaking grief. I am JUST going back to work this week after having major surgery two months ago. Hell, I'm still going to the wound care clinic and still randomly having inflammation.

Woman, cut me some damned slack. The numbers are FINE and once I start to be able to get things more back to normal, they may improve even more.

I shouldn't be surprised. When I was in her office, I mentioned about how Cipro gave me panic attacks but that I'm working with a therapist to get over the worst of things and am stabilizing. Her response "Oh, that's good. If we need, we can start talking about starting (brain meds)" Yeah, again NO. Not everything needs drugs immediately thrown at it, especially if you have someone that you KNOW has adverse effects to many meds.

Way to burst my bubble, lady. Hell, I'm more pissy about this than not getting the upgrade. Zen....ZENNNNNNNNNN

Back, and with even more sass than before

I sent faculty the request for reports before I left for surgery over two months ago and most of these lazy buttholes haven't bothered to fill them out. Also, at the top of the super simple template I sent them was this
NOTE FOR 2025: DO NOT INCLUDE LANGUAGE RESTRICTED BY EXECUTIVE ORDERS AS THESE WILL CAUSE YOUR REPORT TO BE DEFERRED BY USDA

As poked by his business person to send in reports, one faculty member sent me a pathetic looking few sentence submission and had some form of "climate change" THREE TIMES in the pittance he sent.

Dude, do not toy with me. This was the tone of my email reply
